History
L2C, Inc. was formed in March, 2000 for the purpose of bringing emerging data technologies to the task of serving consumers. The Company first developed a way to identify creditworthy consumers from among the many millions in America who had little or no credit history. Since that meant generating reliable credit scores with no credit files, the work called for testing numerous sources of alternative data and designing mathematical tools to generate consumer scores that proved predictive of good credit-handling performance.
The first users of this new service were wireless carriers. They wanted to approve more post-paid mobile phone customers, so L2C’s “Link2Cell” brand was born. Because credit scoring without credit files was a new notion, potential clients were understandably skeptical, so L2C offered to reimburse any credit losses suffered by its clients. Very quickly, the predictive power of L2C’s solutions became clear and those guarantees were no longer requested.
By 2004, L2C was receiving regular requests from the financial services sector to leverage the success we had demonstrated in the wireless arena. In response, L2C developed custom models to address those specific needs and found that it could deliver the same remarkable value to money lenders as it had to phone companies.
To complement its credit scoring, L2C began to offer other consumer scoring services to its clients for marketing purposes. Link Marketing was formed to provide high-value, responsive target lists of consumers for our clients’ on-line and direct mail invitation-to-apply sales campaigns. Its focus is on crafting well focused consumer marketing solutions that do not use databases assembled for use in credit, insurance and other applications considered permissible under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
After ten years of experience, having generated hundreds of millions of consumer scores, both in large batches and individually on-line in real time, the L2C companies serve a broad array of businesses, including credit card companies, banks, auto lenders, credit unions and unsecured lenders, both in the U.S. and abroad. Custom solutions help clients execute a wide variety of strategies, including sales growth, customer retention, default reduction and collection improvement.
